The Marion County Healthcare Foundation has awarded a $510,000 Community Impact Grant to the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation to expand diagnostic imaging at MUSC Health Marion Medical Center. The project, Expanding Access to Lifesaving Diagnostic Services in Marion County, will put a new ultrasound system and a portable digital X-ray unit into service at the county’s 124-bed hospital. Timely imaging is how clinicians find cancer, assess injuries, and decide on treatment. When a scan isn’t available locally, patients can face delayed diagnoses, postponed treatment, and transfers to hospitals outside the county. In a rural county where transportation is a real barrier, those delays add up. This is the Foundation’s fifth grant to MUSC Health for care in Marion County. Earlier awards brought 3-D mammography to the hospital, launched a colorectal cancer endoscopy program, and expanded rural imaging access. Together, the five grants total more than $2.2 million.
