February 2018- Marion County School District Nurses Train on New Trauma Kits
Marion County, S.C. (WPDE) — Nurses in Marion County School District received training Friday on new trauma kits supplied by a Marion Healthcare Foundation grant.
The kits were supplied as a part of the School Emergency Preparedness project, a new initiative for equipping the district's schools for emergency preparation, according to a news release.
The goal of the project is to make sure every school in the district is supplied with emergency trauma kits, to be used by trained individuals, in order to take quick action in life-threatening situations.
The kits are created to administer first aid and for immediate bleeding control and will contain "top quality, life-saving devices that are simple and effective." The idea is to buy time for critically injured patients until Emergency Medical Services arrive.
Each kit includes: tourniquets to stop severe bleeding, bandages to cover serious cuts and dressings to treat someone that is badly burned, the release stated.
“We are grateful to the Marion County Healthcare Foundation for funding this needed project,” commented Marion County School District’s Lead Nurse, Mrs. Karen Scruggs. “Now every school nurse has been properly trained and have the medical resources available in their school should the need ever arise.”
